Samsung GT – S5230 Star
by admin ·
Would you like an Iphone , but you have no 600 or 700 euros for about ? Then the Samsung Star be the ideal phone for you . This midrange- phone or do not have the business functions of a real smartphone (think WiFi , Exchange capabilities and document editors ) , but puts across a good price .
As regards the appearance , the Star without blushing beside the hype of the moment to stand . About taste and color can not argue , but we met no one who does not like . The Star is also only 11.9 millimeters thick , making him along with the height and width of respectively 5.4 and less than 11 inches very pocket friendly.
One aspect to this most Samsung smartphones leaves behind is the battery life. Even with intensive use we can keep the phone easy one week to talk despite the big screen.
Very Good touchscreen
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the 3 inch touch screen that can easily compete with more expensive phones. If your phone when typing messages in landscape mode is running, there will be a full qwertyKeyboard emerges . Although the buttons seem very small , we can calibrate even without typing quickly and correctly .
One downside : if you two times in quick succession in a vowel tap , then you’ll get A instead of AA or E instead of ee . For all we know you can not disable that feature . That is unfortunate .
You can also SMS to enter the traditional way , with a virtual numeric keypad and the T9 dictionary , which incidentally also available when the full keyboard.
Widgets
Navigating by the Samsung TouchWiz interface runs very smoothly , though the scrolling through menu items slightly slower than the Iphone . The Star has three desktops , you can cram with discretion Widgets. These are listed in a sidebar hidden from them to a desktop which you can drag your choice – and back again.
That does not really intuitive drag- back , it usually takes us a few tries for the widget in the sidebar ends instead of behind it. On the desktop widgets are also some large for our taste . An adjustable size would have been better .
The interface you can view in Dutch , if you come through the sometimes long words occasional imperfections such as against ‘ afsprakenli jst – ‘, where’ JST ‘on the second line ends .
Media Features
With the Star you obviously more than just calling and texting . The built-in camera takes pictures up to 3.2 megapixels in size and you can also record video with . Although the picture quality is good , the pictures nauurlijk not match the snapshots you with a real compact camera. In low light , good pictures at all impossible.
The Star also doubles as an FM radio and MP3 player. Therefore you must have a miniSDHC memory card buy , so you can expand the phone memory up to 8 GB.
The memory card slot is under the SIM card. This has the disadvantage that the memory is not hot- swappable but the advantage that the exterior of the phone is not marred by a slot. Unfortunately , the Star does not have a standard jack for headphones , so you must use the supplied copy . The sound is not bad, but we still prefer our own ears . The speaker of the phone sounds like a speaker of a phone.
For the office
You can not create documents with the Star , but you can have PDFs , text files and Word documents into view . In the absence of the multitouch zooming takes a little more work , but it is quite useful. Surfing is done with the built – Jasmine browser based on Webkit . The Star has no WiFi on board. GPRS / EDGE and WAP are there, as well as email support.
Games and ringtones
There will also be entertainment provided in the form of games. These are unfortunately almost all limited trial versions of some games and we have a dark suspicion that she was not entirely designed for touch screens . Only the virtual dice our favor, but then only during the commercials on TV .
What concerns you the freedom ringtones . You can use the available ring tones or just put an mp3 on the phone . The same goes for the wallpapers .
