cell phones reviews: HTC Smart

by admin ·

The HTC Smart is the first device that uses the new Brew OS. More than enough reason to envisage this smartphone to take a closer look … Well, the term ‘smartphone’ is perhaps a little too much credit.

The first thing that strikes me is that the HTC Smart is clearly aimed at a slightly lower market segment. HTC wants this simplified system clearly a different market appeal than phones with Android and the Desire and the Nexus One. But if this was a good decision, ask us seriously wondering. This helps the phone which is never really as a full-fledged smartphone while it has its impact.

Anyway, at first but once the facts straight. The HTC Smart has a 2.8-inch resistive touch screen with a relatively low resolution (320 x 240). With a size of 104 x 55 x 12.8 mm and weighing 108 grams is a fairly compact unit and it is a pity that the screen does not cover the entire surface. This causes the appearance of the Smart which is somewhat dated.

The space that is at the bottom left is filled by a very odd button layout. We find there besides the standard bell-buttons a big “back” button and a tiny button whose action depends on the screen on the phone. It not only looks very strange, it certainly takes some time before you figure how to deal with here.

Furthermore, there is still a handy side button that allows you to instantly start the camera and on the other hand, we find the known volume buttons. Although we are therefore facing a budget phone deal, the Smart still feels very firm and solid. The same can we be sure the buttons say.
Brew OS

By using the Smart Brew OS Please be on the touch-sensitive screen, for example, doing things to set up, phone calls, applications to open and write messages. It is therefore important that the touch screen gives a good response to your fingers. Generally this works fine, as long as the phone but not too much having to perform tasks simultaneously.

Brew has the familiar look Sense HTC makes operation as intuitive as other devices from this manufacturer. However, since you instantly link to other HTC devices explains, are the shortcomings of the Smart quickly surfaced. The phone then perhaps all the standard options (and we can even get started with Twitter and Facebook), but otherwise the possibilities are still very limited.
Twitter and Facebook

Like some other Sense HTC devices you can use the smart application of the Friend Stream. It allows all your Twitter and Facebook enter data and find all the updates from these social networks back. It is a pity that the phone does not have a special application available on Facebook or Twitter. Ie if you select, you will simply be routed to the appropriate site.

You miss just the wealth of opportunities that a fully fledged smartphone has to offer. Especially if you have experience with Android or iPhone devices. You will get a decent music player, e-mail capabilities, a convenient back application and everything about a modern mobile phone should have, but juicy perks or downloading a big pile of Apps you get to the wrong address.

Fast action

One of the biggest drawbacks is not the minimalist design of the Smart (because it does what it meant) but the way the touch screen responds to our actions. Because the device because a small 300MHz processor, it has pretty much trouble to act fast to keep up.

Something that is particularly annoying when typing messages. Rapidly by tapping on the iPhone as there really is not and you go faster than the power of the processor, it will not recognize many letters. In addition, the screen just too small to make good use of the QWERTY keyboard. Out of sheer necessity, therefore, you will quickly switch to the old T9 input in ‘portrait’ mode.

As the camera on this HTC does a pretty mediocre result. The 3.0 megapixel camera takes nice snapshots best day, but evening hours can you be a better ‘real’ camera pull out. This despite the fact that the Smart has a flash. In addition, the unit very low-res (320 x 240) video recording.
Fat Battery

If your phone does little to criticize in this device. Indeed the call quality was perfectly fine and excellent reception. In addition, the battery even further without problems a few days with average use. Furthermore, the phone has an HSDPA connection, but unfortunately lacks a WiFi option.

Yet the musical possibilities that we have to talk most about. The Smart has a 3.5 mm jack for example, so we always use our favorite headphones, and we still see sometimes different. It is also easy to expand memory with a microSD card so we quite some digital albums can take us. The music player is also nice and clear and works fine, and the battery lasts a surprising long as you filled the Smart fanatic as MP3 player. There’s even an FM radio available in case you do not feel that old twisted CDs.

Although the HTC Smart delivers a very solid product with a good belfunctionaliteit and a very handy music player, we are still particularly concerned that the device can make anyone really happy. The new Brew smartphone operating system should allow a budget, but despite the nice interface, easy operation and shoot the smart but mainly short of its abilities. In addition, the slow processor for much delay when typing messages and the QWERTY keyboard is just too small to use comfortably. The euro you spend for this smart, might as well be used to buy an HTC smartphone for a few years ago, what with Android example a lot more opportunities will have.
